About
Nestled in the vibrant heart of Puerto Escondido, Selma offers a dining experience that merges authentic Mexican flavors with fresh coastal influences. Located at Heroes Oaxaqueños and Alejandro Cárdenas La Punta, this spot has become a local favorite for both breakfast and dinner. From the moment you arrive, attentive service stands out—waitstaff are friendly, knowledgeable, and often bilingual, ensuring every guest feels welcomed.
The culinary offerings at Selma are as diverse as they are satisfying. Fans rave about the huevos con chorizo and enchiladas bathed in beans—classic dishes executed with care and passion. Sushi aficionados will appreciate the expertly crafted rolls, especially the tempura shrimp roll, which combines crisp texture and bold flavor, while the aguachile miso brings a refreshing yet spicy kick that captures the essence of the Pacific coast.
One cannot overlook their standout breakfast treat—the red velvet pancakes. Praised as the best ever by repeat diners, these pancakes are a decadent start to the day, perfectly balancing sweetness and fluffiness. Similarly, the homemade pork ginger dumplings are a delightful fusion of Asian and Mexican influences, reflecting Selma’s creative culinary approach.
The atmosphere adds another layer of appeal. Whether seated on the playful street-side swings or at shaded tables beneath ceiling fans, diners enjoy a lively yet relaxed environment. Live music further elevates the experience, complementing dishes like chicken fried rice and fresh fish tacos, which consistently earn high marks for freshness and flavor.
Selma does occasionally encounter small hiccups, such as card payment issues or outdoor smoke drifting nearby, but these minor flaws do little to overshadow the overall quality and warmth found here. Given its prime beachside location, a slightly higher price point feels justified by the quality of food, service, and ambiance.
In sum, Selma stands out as a dynamic culinary destination blending Oaxacan heritage with international touches. Its creative menu, welcoming service, and vibrant setting make it a must-visit for anyone craving bold flavors and memorable dining in Puerto Escondido.
“ Had breakfast on a Saturday in mid January. No wait for a table. Waiters were attentive and spoke English. Juevos con chorizo and enchiladas bathed in beans were both delicious. King Kong smoothie was good. Tried to pay with card but internet was not working, so luckily we had cash. They sat someone next to us who was smoking, but it was outside, so not as bad, but still disgusting and luckily we were almost finished. The bathrooms were fairly clean and of course included with the meal. Enjoyed the beach afterwards ”
“ Had the Tempura shrimp roll and aguachile miso. Both were amazing! Some of the best dishes I had in Puerto Escondido. Honestly I think they have made a lot of changes because overall the experience was great! Highly recommended ”

“ You can sit in swings on the street side or tables under the fans! Fish tacos were excellent. Service was excellent! Loved all of the sushi rolls and the homemade pork ginger dumplings. ”
“ This place is a little loud for me. However, I can’t stop coming back! For the one reason: their red velvet pancakes. The BEST pancakes I have EVER had. I cannot recommend this enough! ”
